Bateman Publishing is part of David Bateman Ltd, an award-winning independent New Zealand publisher of both local and international books. A key presence in the New Zealand publishing industry, Bateman has published over 600 books in the last 30 years.
We publish a wide range of non-fiction and specialise in richly illustrated books with high production values. Between 25 and 30 new titles are issued each year, with around 250 titles kept in print. We are also a distributor for local and international publishers, operating a nationwide sales and distribution service from our warehouse and offices in Auckland.
The company has long recognised the value of the international book market and has had a presence at the Frankfurt Book Fair since 1984, selling editions to international publishers to promote and sell in their own markets. This has been part of a strategy enabling Bateman to take New Zealand writers across a wide range of subjects to an international audience.
We also have a strong Maori and Pacific publishing list, with our experience in top quality colour and production bringing to life titles such as Te Taiao: Maori and the Natural World, Maori Peoples of New Zealand, and the award-winning Vaka Moana.
As well as publishing our own titles, we work with other organizations to co-publish books to the highest standard, including Auckland Museum, the Department of Statistics, Te Ara Encyclopedia of New Zealand, numerous art galleries and the Nga Tama Toa Trust.
continues to publish acclaimed titles across a spectrum of non-fiction categories, providing New Zealand and international audiences with a wide range of high-quality reading experiences.
